EXETER TOWNSHIP – Rep. Aaron Kaufer (R-Luzerne) and Sen. Lisa Baker (R-Luzerne/Pike/Susquehanna/Wayne/Wyoming) today joined with family members of Robert “Bob” Kile Sr. at a ceremony to designate part of a local highway in his memory.
Kaufer was the prime sponsor of legislation to name a section of State Route 92 from Apple Tree Road to Rustic Lane in Exeter Township, Luzerne County, as the Robert F. Kile Sr. Memorial Highway. Kile passed away last June.
“By dedicating this highway in Bob’s memory, we are ensuring that generations to come will now know of his significant contributions, both as a government leader and first responder,” said Kaufer. “His life was an inspiration and a shining example of what it means to truly care for the community in which one lives.”
“Bob’s hard work and dedication within his community had a positive impact upon so many people during challenging times in their lives,” Baker said. “There is nothing we can do to change the fact that he is no longer with us, but we can come together to honor and remember the life of a brave hero whose legacy of committed service will live on.”
Kile was an active member within the community and served in many different positions, including Exeter Township board of supervisors chairman, certified emergency medical technician, Franklin Township Fire Department chief, Dallas Fire and Ambulance chief, Mt. Zion Bicentennial Fire Company second assistant chief, and Harding and Mt. Zion Ambulance Association second assistant commander. He also spent 10 years working for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and served with the U.S. Army and Pennsylvania National Guard.
PennDOT erected and will maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the highway to traffic in both directions.
