HARRISBURG – State grants totaling $1.69 million were awarded local projects in Susquehanna County, according to Sen. Lisa Baker (R-20) and Rep. Jonathan Fritz (R-111).
“These grants will greatly assist moving forward on these priority projects. Three communities will realize needed improvements to their systems to protect public health, upgrade local water quality and ensure their ability to handle new construction of homes and businesses when opportunities arise,” Baker said. “Commendations are due to the local officials and community leaders who assembled and advocated these successful applications.”
“I’m pleased to hear that these grant dollars are coming our area,” Fritz said. “This funding is essential for the sanitation infrastructure upgrades, protection and well-being of our communities.”
Four projects were funded through the COVID-19 ARPA H2O PA Water Supply, Sanitary Sewer and Storm Water Projects Program (H2O). The H2O PA program provides for single-year and multi-year grants for the construction of drinking water, sanitary sewer and storm sewer projects; the construction or renovation of flood control projects; and the repair or rehabilitation of high-hazard unsafe dams. The approved projects include:
- $420,450 for wastewater treatment facility improvements for the Hallstead-Great Bend Joint Sewer Authority.
- $417,516 for upgrades to the Quaker Laker collection system in Silver Lake Township.
- $188,190 to rehabilitate and replace structural stormwater infrastructure on Adams Avenue, Church Street and Greenwood Street in Hop Bottom Borough.
- $65,000 to refurbish a 200,000-gallon holding tank in Oakland Borough.
“This is fantastic news for the community of Brackney and Silverlake Township. Our systems are over 50 years old and need some updating This grant will allow us to get moving on some of those initiatives,” Paul Adams said, Silver Lake Township Municipal Authority chairman. “I wanted to thank Rep. Fritz and Sen. Baker for their support in securing this grant for the people in our community. I also wanted to thank my fellow board members.”
In addition, the Montrose Municipal Authority is receiving $608,000 in COVID-19 ARPA H2O PA Water Supply, Sanitary Sewer and Storm Water Projects Program (H2O) funds to install three pump stations and associated force mains in Hanover Township.
“The Montrose municipal sewer board is excited about this grant which will help equalize the flow to the sewer plant during heavy rain events,” Ted Cady said, manager of the Montrose Municipal Authority. “We are most appreciative for our state’s representatives in the Senate and House for their support.
