HARRISBURG – Sen. Lisa Baker (R-20) has been appointed to several key committees for the 2025-26 legislative session: Judiciary as chair; Banking and Insurance as vice chair; Communications and Technology; and Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness.
“There is a real advantage in once again chairing the consequential Senate Judiciary Committee for the new session,” said Baker. “Our agenda will pick up on the priority issues from last session, including increased public safety measures, additional protections for vulnerable populations, and further criminal and juvenile justice reforms.”
Baker previously served on the Banking and Insurance, Communications and Technology, and Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness committees, so she is aware of the challenges each panel works to address.
“Given the disastrous weather events afflicting so many states, we must ensure emergency preparedness is sufficiently funded and commercial and residential insurance coverage remains available at affordable cost,” said Baker. “There is still attention and investment needed to make certain that small communities and rural areas have access to modern technology at affordable cost in their homes, schools, workplaces, health facilities and emergency response locations. And our work is never done in our mission to fulfill the promises we made to all those who served in our military.”
The committees provide legislative oversight and help craft bills within their areas of responsibility.
Judiciary Committee (chair): Addresses a wide range of issues within Pennsylvania’s criminal justice system, considering legislative proposals aimed at increasing justice, fairness and the protection of fundamental rights.
Banking and Insurance Committee (vice chair): Responsible for reviewing legislation to ensure financial institutions and insurers operate under sound practices while fostering a competitive marketplace.
Communications and Technology Committee: Focused on improving access to high-speed internet, safeguarding personal information in state government, and enhancing technology efficiency across the state.
Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee: Oversees legislation related to fire, EMS, emergency management and issues affecting military personnel and veterans.
“These committees play a vital role in shaping policies that impact Pennsylvanians’ lives every day,” said Baker. “Whether it’s enhancing justice in our courts, ensuring the stability of our financial institutions, expanding access to reliable internet or supporting our veterans and first responders, these are issues that touch every corner of the 20th District. I am committed to working diligently to address these priorities and make meaningful progress for the people of Pennsylvania.”
